In need of Your light Lord;
my life is such a mess.
Without it there’s no hope Lord;
of this I must confess.
Show me what to do Lord;
I’m ready to listen now.
My way didn’t work Lord;
would you please show me how?
Didn’t intend to forsake You Lord,
but I guess that’s what I’ve done;
one thing then another Lord,
till there’s little of the One.
Forgive me of my wrong Lord;
come and light my way.
Show me what to do Lord;
hear these words I pray.
Help me as I start Lord;
often please remind.
Show me everyday Lord;
life as You designed.
Show me what to do Lord;
I’m ready to listen now.
My way didn’t work Lord;
would you please show me how?
This could be the anthem for my life. Thanks.
I really liked all of this and these last lines especially rang true for me:
Show me everyday Lord;
life as You designed.
Thank you, Mike, and God bless you are you write for Him!
What a great heartfelt cry of surrender! Good work, Mike!
I wrote this originally with a couple in mind. Instead of ‘My life’, it was ‘Our lives’. I created the alternate for my jail ministry guys.
My hope as I wrote it was that it would become the cry of their heart, as it has been at times of mine. It is hard knowing the life that is available, yet some are just not there. At best, ‘we’ can try to persuade man’s actions, but only ‘God’ can persuade there character.
I really appreciate all your comments . . . and each one of ‘you’ actually.
Hi Mike — a wonderful poem .. I think it speaks of the hearts of many true seekers of God … I know it did mine. How we come to a point of seeing our lives and the mess we’ve created going our own way – even when we thought it was God’s. And wanting nothing more than to be totally consumed by God. It’s much more than being a follower of God – we live in, through and by Him.
