I love the Psalms. They are written records of individuals pouring their heart out to God. Occasionally I find phrases that express more clearly than I have been able to, the cries and yearnings of my own heart and soul. They give me specific words that I can use myself as I pray.
One such verse is Psalm 74:11; “Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take it from the folds of you garment and destroy them”.
Although I don’t have people I want destroyed, I have had situations I wanted to see destroyed. The image of God standing with His hand tucked in the folds of His robe, knowing it could come out at any moment, was a helpful image to have in mind as I prayed.
It was especially cool to see it finally come out. And now having seen it, I can pray another verse; but now with more feeling and meaning than ever before. It is so simple but it says so much. Psalm 118:7; “The Lord is with me; he is my helper”.
I,too, love the Psalms and use them for prayers.
Although David didn’t write all of them, he wrote many and I like to think of how he used them. After all, Scripture states that David did the will of God for his generation.
Most of us would like to have the same statement said about our own lives.
Yeah, that is ever before me. I think it was a book, either by Ravenhil or Tozer, where Tozer and Ravenhil are having a conversation and Tozer says something to the effect that the thing he fears the most is getting to heaven as a pauper when he could have been a king.
I also love the Psalms. They are a constant reminder to me that God has authority over all that touches my life. Nothing can take me from my place of standing with God. My future is in his hands alone.
Psalm 5:3 says. ” in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.” This was written by David who knew the God he served. He had the faith to lay his requests down at the feet of God and KNOW and expect beyond a doubt that God would help him. That is the kind of faith that gives honor to God!
That is a cool verse. It is really cool to see how the Lord answers our requests. I’ve often wondered if He, knowing what He is getting ready to do, stirs us to request it, or does our request stir Him to do? That is a question I will ask one day.
I’m so excited and rejoicing at you getting to see that prayer happen, to see His hand move against a situation that you had prayed about. 🙂 He is your helper, and mine too and how awesome that He can be with us all, all the time.
God bless you and yours as He moves on your behalf.
Cool to be on the right side of things.
I love the psalms too. They express so clearly what I sometimes feel in my heart. Needless to say my bible is pretty marked up. 🙂
Yeah, parts of mine are marked terribly bad. After a while I like to start with a new one. It is getting close to that time.
Haven’t been able to keep up with my blogging as I like lately. Work has picked up considerably and has taken much energy to keep up with it. Eventually it will get back to normal. Sorry to have to miss so many of your encouraging thoughts.
Just started readig Romans. I like what Paul says in 1:11. “I long to see you so that may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong – that is , that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.”
It is similar to how I feel about each of you and your writings and comments. Hopefully we are ‘mutally’ encouraged by each other’s faith.
